Shallow lentic waters are important sites of aquatic-atmosphere greenhouse gas exchange. This exchange can take place through several pathways, including direct release of gas from sediments via ebullition. This process challenging to quantify and thus has been relatively understudied in comparison to vegetative and diffusive pathways.
